Should bank track down customer?

A Golden Valley woman who recently found $300 sitting in the cash slot of an Edina drive-through ATM wanted to make sure it was reunited with its owner.
Donna Kaibel had waited in line behind the man, who drove off without taking the money. When he didn’t return, she walked into the bank and gave it to a teller.
“[The teller] said if he doesn’t call they’ll put it in an account for people who lose their money,” she said. “That’s not right. They should try to find him.”
Kaibel thought they could have checked their security cameras or used her receipt to determine who had used the ATM just before her, she said.
How much effort should a bank put forth to return a customer’s money?
