There was no reported progress in talks today between Minnesota Orchestra management and the musicians union. A federal mediator joined the negotiations for a new contract.Musicians this afternoon issued a press release saying the management negotiating team had rejected the union's request to bring their concerns directly to the board of directors. The board is scheduled to meet at 5:30 p.m. Monday to determine its next step. The musicians characterize the meeting as being held "to determine whether or not they will lock musicians out of work after the contract expires on Sept. 30," according to the musicians' statement.A union spokesman said he expects the board to make a new contract offer on Tuesday, although no more face-to-face meetings have been scheduled for the remainder of the week. The union also renewed a call for an independent analysis of the finances and endowments of the orchestra. Management has rejected that request.
