Pillsbury House Theatre, the bold and precocious Minneapolis company that operates on a calendar year, has announced its 2013 mainstage season. The company will remount its successful production of Tracey Scott Wilson's"Buzzer" at a new venue, the Guthrie Theater. The potent drama, which had its successful premiere in February at Pillsbury House, swirls race, love and gentrification and will again be staged by Marion McClinton. It will have the same terrific cast of Hugh Kennedy (above left), Sara Richardson and Namir Smallwood (Feb. 8-March 3, 2013). Acting dynamo Sonja Parks, who won an Ivey Award in 2009, has been tapped to star in Sharon Bridgforth's interdisciplinary migration story "River See." That show runs April 13-21, 2013. The mainstage season concludes with Marcus Gardley's "The Road Weeps, the Well Runs Dry." Directed by McClinton, the play is set in the Black Seminole town of Wewoka, Okla., and, according to the release, "explores issues of spirituality, identity, education and migration" (Sept. 27-Oct. 27, 2013). Conspicuously, the announced season does not include Tarell Alvin McCraney's coming-of-age play "Marcus; or the Secret of Sweet," the final work in the playwright's landmark Brother/Sister Plays trilogy. McClinton directed the two other titles in McCraney's bayou-set series: "In the Red and Brown Water," a standout from last year; and "The Brothers Size," whose outstanding Pillsbury House and Mount Curve Company production ends Sept. 29 at the Guthrie.
