Saturday: After a summer of sweaty creativity, the 40 artists at Franconia kick back and celebrate the season's new sculptures. Party animals all, they throw a great daylong, family-friendly bash that's a glorious excuse for an early autumn St. Croix Valley outing. Besides tours of the new sculptures dotted about Franconia's 20-acre landscape, there is entertainment galore including live music by the Eclectic Ensemble (improv), Big Surf (surf rock with a hula and limbo party), Platypus (kid rock), L'Assassins (all-women rock) and the 4onthefloor (rock). Other diversions include magic and kid-friendly comedy by Normonzo the Great, a live amphibian program with naturalist Randy the Frog Guy, poetry readings by Edwin Royale and Dale Cox, and a performance by youth from the St. Croix Festival Theatre. Plus a hot metal pour, roving stilt-walkers, face-painting, spin art and a food court featuring Taco Taxi, Love n Grub Grill, the Waffle Van, GF Goodies and Summit Beer from the Lizard Lounge. (10 a.m.-10 p.m. Sat., free. Parking $5 before 6 p.m., $10 after 6 p.m. Franconia Sculpture Park, 29836 St. Croix Trail, near Taylors Falls at the intersection of Hwys. 8 and 95, 651-257-6668 or www.franconia.org)
