Like Minnesota, Wisconsin has been suffering through a drought. But the upper half of Wisconsin got enough rain to make for a "good colorama year," says Danielle Johnson of the state Department of Tourism. She says the northern part of Wisconsin usually peaks from mid-September to the end of October. But the drought-baked southern half of the state is different. Jason Quast, assistant forest superintendent at the Kettle Moraine State Forest's Northern Unit, says: "We're telling people the drought will have an effect on how vibrant the colors will be this year." Travelers can get color information by phone at 1-800-432-8747 weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL
