Minnesotan David Foster, executive director of the BlueGreen Alliance, is set to speak to the Democratic National Convention Wednesday night about his dealings with Mitt Romney’s Bain Capital.
Foster worked with Bain when he was director of the United Steelworkers District 11 and Bain bought GST Steel in Missouri.
This spring, Foster was featured in a pro-Obama video and ad that blamed Romney almost directly for the tough times steelworkers experienced at the plant.
In the video, a worker says Bain was like a vampire that “sucked the life out of us.” After Bain bought GST, the company declared bankruptcy and eventually closed (well after Romney left Bain.)
Romney pitches Bain’s involvement in the steel industry as an American success story.
“At a time when nobody thought we'd ever see a new steel mill built in America, we took a chance and build one in the cornfield in Indiana. Today, Steel Dynamics is one of the largest steel producers in the United States,” he said during last week’s Republican National Convention.
