Letter of the day (Aug. 24): Police officers

  • August 24, 2012 - 6:52 AM

One night they're stabbed after being lured to help someone ("Bogus 911 call from suspect lured park police into ambush," Aug. 23). The next night, they stealthily move in on a problem neighbor of mine who is firing a gun at 3 a.m.

Thank you to the men and women of law enforcement who work overnight. They're not getting rich, nor tucking their kids into bed, nor sleeping in the dark. Those brave officers are moving toward a gun, working by flashlight, protecting one another and us while we sleep. (Or as we watch from a bedroom window, too afraid to yell thank you, as they take a dangerous neighbor away in handcuffs.)
