Grab your gloves and shovel and head to the Bachman's tree planting party Sept. 29 to help beautify the cross-country ski trails for the City of Lakes Loppet Feb. 2-3. Volunteers are needed to plant 75 trees, all native to Minnesota, along the Loppet event trails, which wind through Theodore Wirth Park and around five Minneapolis lakes, finishing in Uptown. Tree planting training is at 8 a.m., followed by planting at 9 a.m. at Theodore Wirth Park in Minneapolis. To sign up, go to www.eventbrite.com/event/4100960082.

Daffodils and more For beautiful blooms in spring, don't forget to plant daffodil bulbs this fall. The Minnesota Daffodil Society is selling bulbs -- many are new varieties and unusual colors -- at the Carver-Scott Master Gardeners Plant sale from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday in the Rainbow Foods parking lot, Hwy. 41 and Pioneer Trail, Chaska. Perennials, house plants, garden books and other items will also be for sale. For information, go to http://carverscottmaster gardeners.org.
