Johnny Love's Canterbury Park line for Sunday, Aug. 19
- August 18, 2012 - 6:03 PM
Post time: 1:35 p.m. Best bet: Name Dropper (1st race). Best play: Daily Double (1st): $6 (4w/2,3) $4 (4w/4,6), $20.
1st race 1 mile, 70 yards. 3-year-olds and up. Maiden claiming. Purse: $9,000. (#/Horse, Jockey, Trainer Wt. Odds) 1/Moeka (Delorme, Riddle) 123 12-1 2/Sammy Ray (Aguilar, Conde) 123 15-1 3/Ramos (Trimble, Livingston) 123 10-1 4/Name Dropper (Dieguez, Lynn) 120 6-5 5/Mendon Mountain (Velazquez, Lund) 120 7-2 6/Maggie's Hero (Rivera, Litfin) 123 5-1 7/Sing Me Away (Castro, Rosin) 120 9-2 NAME DROPPER held on for second last out at this level and distance after grabbing a brief lead running four-wide. Appears the one to beat in this struggling maiden field. MAGGIE'S HERO could improve on the drop in class and change of scenery coming up from Prairie Meadows. RAMOS improved position last out for career-best speed figure but still finished way behind our top pick.
2nd race 6 furlongs. 3-year-olds and up. Claiming $5,000. Purse: $11,000. 1/Wildcatclass (Rivera, Hartman) 123 6-1 2/Rack Daddy (Canchari, Robertson) 118 5-2 3/Teton Motel (Goodwin, Brinson) 120 4-1 4/Amaryllis Beach (Riggs, Padilla) 120 5-1 5/Flying by the Pole (Dieguez, Bethke) 120 12-1 6/French Moon (Velazquez, Lund) 120 3-1 7/Aurorin Shot (Trimble, Johnson) 123 6-1 TETON MOTEL started this summer on fire with two large margin victories before fading badly in allowance race. Trainer Brinson hits high numbers bringing his runners back with over a month rest. RACK DADDY took the lead last out and didn't look back as the heavy favorite. Doesn't need the lead and most likely will sit behind a couple of front runners fighting for the lead. Stalker AMARYLLIS BEACH has won the past two sitting off the pace and pouncing. Obvious danger to pace setters today.
3rd race 7 1/2 furlongs. 3-year-olds and up. Allowance. Purse: $26,880. 1/Sheer Trick (Butler, Brinson) 118 10-1 2/Supremo Struckgold (Goodwin, Scherer) 121 6-1 3/Jack's Tiger (Canchari, Scherbenske) 116 10-1 4/Bigdaddywaybucks (Dieguez, Bethke) 121 6-1 5/Sue's Stormy (Walker Jr., Rengstorf) 120 4-1 6/Ghost Dance (Delorme, Porter) 121 6-1 7/Private Warrior (Riggs, Robertson) 118 9-2 8/The Quinnster (Stevens, Olesiak) 121 15-1 9/Here Comes Henry (Castro, Weir) 121 7-2 PRIVATE WARRIOR closed well last out but came up short while chasing the pace. Riggs should have this gelding forwardly placed once again with field full of speed. HERE COMES HENRY is a consistent turf runner who will be rolling late and should have a decent pace to pick up the pieces. SHEER TRICK debuts on the turf today and pedigree suggests colt should adjust well.
4th race 1 mile 70 yards. 3-year-olds and up. Claiming $5,000. Purse: $11,000. 1/Pomeroy Girl (Stevens, Biehler) 119 5-2 2/Trust N You (Bell, Riecken) 119 6-1 3/Mosaico (Velazquez, Hop) 119 10-1 4/Via Di Roma (Riggs, Shryock) 119 3-1 5/Holly and Fir (Rivera, Litfin) 123 5-1 6/Cadrona (Franco, Silva) 123 7-2 7/Inertia (Walker Jr., Barton) 115 12-1 POMEROY GIRL had the lead, lost the lead, grabbed the lead again, then was out-finished. Last race showed a gutty performance from the speedy filly who should be on the lead by herself. VIA DI ROMA won last out after waiting out traffic congestion to get thru and winning by large margin. CARDONA circled the field as the favorite last effort drawing away from the field. Silva/Franco team are always dangerous.
5th race 7 1/2 furlongs. 3-year-olds and up. Claiming $7,500. Purse: $13,000. 1/Go for the Moon (Riggs, Robertson) 119 5-1 2/So Divine (Velazquez, Rarick) 119 15-1 3/Our Miss Brookside (Keith, Biehler) 121 5-1 4/Dynastique (Arroyo, Courtemanche) 119 15-1 5/Stillwater Storm (Walker Jr., Oliver) 119 10-1 6/S S Dessert First (Bell, Scherer) 119 7-2 7/Prairie Academy (Delorme, Donlin) 119 12-1 8/Ilimitado (Goodwin, Sheehan) 119 20-1 9/S S Shelby (Rivera, Lund) 119 4-1 10/Harlan's Pepper (Butler, Rhone) 119 12-1 11/Hearts Don't Lie (Canchari, Bends) 114 6-1 12/Lookouthereicome (Goodwin, King) 119 20-1 S S SHELBY and S S DESSERT FIRST both look tough here. Both have tactical speed and drop in class but give nod to S S Shelby, who does her best running at today's distance for trainer Valerie Lund. GO FOR THE MOON had trouble trip in last effort but was still able to get up for show money with Riggs aboard. Never leave a Butzow/Robertson/Riggs team off your ticket. OUR MISS BROOKSIDE and STILLWATER STORM are legitimate threats.
6th race 6 furlongs. 3-year-olds and up. Claiming $3,500. Purse: $9,000. 1/King of Rhythm (Goodwin, Donlin) 120 15-1 2/Fast Deposit (Arroyo, White) 120 20-1 3/Bullfighter (Walker Jr., Hemba) 120 8-1 4/Alex's Tomcat (Morales, Rarick) 120 15-1 5/Brooke's Gold (Bell, Natale) 120 10-1 6/Good Luck Shamrock (Velazquez, Scherer) 120 8-1 7/Eagle Two Hundred (Riggs, Hartman) 120 7-2 8/Sax Notes (Castro, Rosin) 120 12-1 9/Forest Sunrise (Canchari, Rarick) 115 20-1 10/Ghazi Up (Shino, Corcoran) 120 10-1 11/Ize On Juan (Dieguez, Bethke) 120 6-1 12/Redneck Richie (Keith, Biehler) 120 4-1 REDNECK RICHIE drops in class and expect Lori Keith to come out firing from the far outside post to be on or near the lead. EAGLE TWO HUNDRED has good speed figures coming in from Prairie Meadows to put him in the mix and it doesn't hurt getting Riggs at the helm. GOOD LUCK SHAMROCK is among many here who could upset if they could somehow regain previous form.
7th race About 1 mile. 3-year-olds and up. Claiming $14,000-$16,000. Purse: $19,500. 1/Grandpa Roy (Delorme, Porter) 119 6-1 2/Don't Bluff (Bell, Robertson) 119 8-1 3/High Flying Jake (Butler, Granitz) 119 6-1 4/Bourbon by the Bay (Prado, Jones) 119 12-1 5/Surplus (Rivera, Van Winkle) 119 8-1 6/Tricky Causeway (Riggs, Hartman) 119 7-2 7/El Poppie (Canchari, Arterburn) 114 5-1 8/Willie Prevail (Keith, Riddle) 121 8-1 9/Slew City Storm (Rhone, Arterburn) 119 9-2 Give slight edge to SURPLUS, who disappointed many by running a clunker last out. I'm going to draw a line through that race and hope he regains his form for the upset in the toughest race of the day with a plethora of price horses. TRICKY CAUSEWAY hasn't run on the turf in two years but those were strong performances against much better. DON'T BLUFF gets new trainer in Robertson but is reunited with Bell, who won together back in May.
8th race 6 furlongs. 3-year-olds and up. Maiden Claiming $10,000. Purse: $14,080. 1/Tenpin Strike (Riggs, Robertson) 120 3-1 2/Demidoffs Prospect (Garnett, Winget) 120 20-1 3/Dame Steely (Velazquez, Backhaus) 120 6-1 4/L G Suprem (Castro, Fauchald) 120 5-1 5/Bold Advantage (Trimble, Weidner) 123 12-1 6/Orfan Ole (Arroyo, Conde) 120 20-1 7/Ghazi's Patch Work (Canchari, Litfin) 118 20-1 8/Nasty Email (Delorme, Weidner) 123 30-1 9/Cyclone Canyon (Keith, Biehler) 120 8-1 10/Ideal Asscher Cut (Canchari, McShane) 115 5-2 11/Big Willo (Prado, McFadden) 123 30-1 TENPIN's lone start was not an eye-popper but Robertson excels in maiden second starts and should be tough here in the drop in class and weak field. CYCLONE CANYON too drops in class coming out of same race as Tenpin but wasn't a factor. Hopefully will enjoy class relief to be a player today. L G SUPREM is a late closer who looms the off-the-pace upsetter.
9th race 350 yards. 2-year-olds. Futurity. Purse: $22,069. 1/Alotta Louie (Frink, Johnson) 122 12-1 2/Jj Glide to Glory (Luark, Fennell Jr.) 122 8-1 3/Mr Shakem Diva (Goodwin, Hardy) 122 5-2 4/Anokee (Trimble, Reuer) 122 20-1 5/Rebaday (Arroyo, Reuer) 122 10-1 6/Hastabealeader (Smith, Johnson) 122 3-1 7/Winnin N Grinnin (Swiontek, Johnson) 122 15-1 8/Cashing It In (Velazquez, Addicott) 122 15-1 9/Almost Royal (Delorme, Fennell Jr.) 122 10-1 10/Mr Imgunasteelurgirl (Riggs, Johnson) 122 8-1 11/L Valentino (Prado, Fennell Jr.) 122 12-1 HASTABEALEADER will be tough to beat with a clean start and early speed in what appears to be a two-horse race with MR SHAKEM DIVA. Mr Shakem Diva has place honors covered with four consecutive silver medals. MR IMGUNASTEELURGIRL shows early speed but will have to take three steps up the ladder to have a chance today.
