NEWEST TWINS

Eduardo Escobar

Age: 23

Hometown: Villa de Cura, Venezuela

Ht./Wt.: 5-10, 165

Position: Shortstop

Bats/throws: S/R

Misc.: Played nine games in a September call-up in 2011. In 36 games this season, primarily as a defensive backup, he is hitting .193 (14-for-83), with two doubles, a triple and nine walks. While his defensive skills draw raves, with comparisons to Omar Vizquel, his hitting skills need developing. According to the White Sox: "He can flat-out play shortstop with good range, hands and an excellent arm. If he can continue to show anything with the bat, he could turn into a good all-around shortstop."

Pedro Hernandez

Ht./Wt.: 5-10, 200

Position: LHP

Misc.: Gave up eight runs and 12 hits, including three homers, over four-plus innings against the Red Sox in his major league debut in place of Gavin Floyd on July 18. It was a 10-1 loss. In the minors this season, at Class AA Birminham and Class AAA Charlotte, he was 8-2 with a 2.94 ERA in 14 starts, allowing 86 hits (and seven homers) and 21 walks in 85 2/3 innings. He is 32-13 in six minor league seasons.
