David Geffen doesn't talk much to the media, so I had to take full advantage of my time with him at the TV Critics Association press tour in Los Angeles by asking about his past interest in newspapers. A few years ago, Geffen - the former producer for Bob Dylan and a co-founder of Dreamworks - tried to buy the New York Times and spent some time looking into the financial state of the LA Times. Both went nowhere.

So, what about a stab at the Star Tribune?

No dice. Geffen said he's no longer interested in buying a paper, but said that if he actually lived in Minnneapolis, he might make a bid. He had hoped to turn the NY Times into a non-profit.

Geffen wasn't very forthcoming on other subjects, but did shoo away a suggestion that he was the subject of Carly Simon's "You're So Vain."

"Not to say I'm not vain, but I'm not her vain," said Geffen, who did admit that he's the subject of Joni Mitchell's "Free Man in Paris."

Geffen was part of a full Sunday that included chats with Meg Ryan, Diane Lane, Ken Burns, Cloris Leachman, Louis Gossett Jr. and Richard Chamberlain.
