Republican House Speaker John Boehner used the term “dangerous” Thursday to describe calls by Minnesota Republican Michele Bachmann to investigate Muslim infiltration in the U.S. government.

"I think accusations like this being thrown around are pretty dangerous," Boehner said, according to a CNN report.

Boehner said he had not read Bachmann’s June 13 letters requesting investigations of five federal agencies, including the State and Defense departments. Among the concerns Bachmann raised are alleged family ties of a top aide to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Huma Abedin, to groups connected to the Muslim Brotherhood.

Boehner's comment is the latest in a growing public firestorm created by Bachmann's campaign to expose Muslim Brotherhood "influence operations" in government.

Republican Arizona Sen. John McCain denounced Bachmann’s allegations Wednesday in speech on the Senate floor. He called Bachmann’s accusations against Abedin “specious and degrading.”

Boehner also defended Abedin, saying “everything I do know of her she has a sterling character.”

For her part, Bachmann ducked CNN's cameras on Capitol Hill:
