The Timberwolves opened Las Vegas Summer League play Monday with a 73-64 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on a night when Wes Johnson scored 16 points and Derrick Williams had 15 points and nine rebounds.

During NBA TV’s broadcast, coach Rick Adelman talked about more important matters.

On Ricky Rubio’s recovery: “He’s ahead of schedule. We have no idea if he’s going to be there, probably November, December we hope. But we’re just hoping.”

On the team’s pursuit of Nicolas Batum: “He’s a perfect fit for our team. … But it’s a business. It was a good intent [to sign him to a $46.5 million offer sheet]. Wish it would get over with.”

On Brandon Roy’s arrival: “It’s kind of like you’re rolling the dice. He would help us so much at the end of games, if he can stay healthy.”
