Back to baseball: Twins take on the Athletics at Target Field

The Twins already are out on the field, working out the kinks from the All-Star break. Oakland worked out at 1:30.

You can definitely see where the outfield was attacked by the concert last weekend. There's fresh sod in deep center field, but you can also see that some of the grass has been painted.

Matt Capps is here and will be available tonight out of the bullpen. Capps are activated from the DL yesterday, with Kyle Waldrop being sent to Class AAA Rochester to make room.

Word is that Zach Parise is going to throw out the first pitch tonight.

Will check back with updates.

UPDATES: Parise is throwing out the first pitch on Sunday, not today.

Carl Pavano was great before the game, taking the blame for letting the team down by not being able to take the ball. He's playing catch now and could pitch off a mound by the end of next week., There's no way he'll be ready to pitch in a game this month, but he feels like he's cleared a hurdle.

Scouts from the Mets and Yankees are here - at least the ones we recognized.

First round pick Byron Buxton has been slowed in recent days by a sore hamstring but is expected to return in a few days.

The Twins signed five more of their draft picks before the league-wide deadline at 4 p.m. They are lefthander Andre Martinez (sixth), outfielder Zach Larson (20th), righthander Travis Huber (23rd), righthander Carson Goldsmith (28th) and lefthander Andrew Ferreira (32nd)..

According to Baseball America, Martinez's signed for $80,000. He had an agreement for $260,000 but concerns about this shoulder popped up.
