Alzheimer's shield?

What it is: The newly discovered mutation slows the production of beta amyloid, a protein suspected in Alzheimer's disease, and appears to override a gene that is a strong risk factor for the disease.
Could you have it? The protective mutation is very rare - and unlikely if you are not Scandinavian.
What's next: Scientists will evaluate how reducing the protein affects those with typical Alzheimer's.
