Legendary outdoor writer, bass fishing expert, author and TV host "Uncle" Homer Circle has died at age 97. He was an icon in the fishing industry and may have been best known as longtime fishing editor for Sports Afield magazine, a position he held for 34 years.

More recently he wrote a column in Bassmaster magazine called "Ask Uncle Homer'' and was a longtime member of the Outdoor Writers Association of America. He continued to write and fish until his death Friday at Ocala, Fla., where he lived.

Circle was the writer of many bass fishing books, including "Bass Wisdom," in 2000, and the host of several television shows, including "The Fisherman" and "The Outdoorsman."
