A knife-wielding woman shot by Minneapolis police officers early Tuesday remained hospitalized late in the day but was expected to survive, police said.

The 47-year-old woman, whose name was not released, was in Hennepin County Medical Center with gunshot wounds to her lower torso, said Sgt. William Palmer, a department spokesman.

She was shot when officers were called at 1 a.m. to the Franklin Villa Apartments at 305 W. Franklin Av. in response to a 911 call about a woman with a knife. Officers approached the woman, who ignored repeated commands to drop the knife. Officers then fired a Taser at the woman, which they said had no effect. Police then shot at the woman when she continued toward them while brandishing the knife.
