It might be time for Bob Dylan to get a checkup at the Mayo Clinic. Last seen in his home state on the night of the presidential election in 2008 – the winner of which just awarded him the Medal of Freedom a couple weeks ago – the Hibbing/Duluth native will finally return with his band to perform in Rochester at the Mayo Civic Center's Taylor Arena on Aug. 21. Tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster for $49.50 (general admission) and $55 (reserved).

There is currently no word of a Twin Cities date or any other Minnesota shows being added. Looking at his itinerary, there is a one-day window between Rochester and his Aug. 19 date at Fargo's Civic Auditorium, and then he has three days to get to his next date in Fort Wayne, Ind. He also booked a show in Sioux Falls, S.D., on Aug. 18. Dylan played Rochester twice in the '00s on his tours of small ballparks, both very memorable shows, as was his haggard but somewhat historic November 2008 concert at Northrop Auditorium (on the U of M campus where he famously dropped out and headed for New York).

Bob's not the only one curiously playing a road-trip-worthy date on his fall tour. Eighties cult legend Morrissey has booked an Oct. 30 date at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa, which will follow an Oct. 29 gig at the Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis. Tickets to the Orpheum concert go on sale through Ticketmaster Saturday at noon for $75-$39.50. If this year's Orpheum show is anything like the former Smiths' singers 2009 gig at the neighboring State Theatre – his first here in almost a decade, wherein he tore off his shirt not once but twice – it should be a fun one.

But ol' Moz might really cut loose at the Surf Ballroom. The post-war dancehall is a somewhat kitschy but absolutely one-of-a-kind venue best-known, of course, as the place where Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper last performed before their plane crashed in 1959. Check back at Morrissey's website for ticket info to be announced.
