The fifth annual Lunch for Libraries at Macalester College will feature seven of the authors who contributed to the recent book "Libraries of Minnesota," published by the Minnesota Historical Society Press. Marsha Wilson Chall, Pete Hautman, John Coy, David LaRochelle, Nancy Carlson, Kao Kalia Yang and Will Weaver will tell stories and sign books at the annual event, which is a fundraiser for the Minnesota Library Foundation.

Tickets are $40 each or $300 for a table for eight. The lunch will begin at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Kagin Commons at Macalester in St. Paul. To purchase tickets, call 651-645-5731 or e-mail judy@melsa.org.

• "On a Farther Shore: The Life and Legacy of Rachel Carson," by William Souder, will be published this fall by Crown. Souder lives in Stillwater and is the author of two previous books, "A Plague of Frogs" and "Under a Wild Sky," a biography of John James Audubon and a 2005 Pulitzer Prize finalist.

• The latest in Jacqueline West's "The Books of Elsewhere" series, "Volume Three: The Second Spy," will be published in July by Dial Press. West, who lives in Red Wing, is a poet and writer for young adults. The first two books in the series were finalists for a Minnesota Book Award.

• "Corn Palaces and Butter Heads: A History of Crop Art and Dairy Sculpture," by Pamela H. Simpson, has been published by the University of Minnesota Press. Simpson, who died in 2011, was the Ernest Williams II Professor of Art History at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Va.

• "Prodigal," poems by Francine Marie Tolf, has been published by Pinyon Publishing. Tolf is the author of a memoir and a previous collection of poetry and her work has appeared in Water-Stone Review, Spoon River, Poetry East and elsewhere.

• "The Last Kings of Norse America: Runestone Keys to a Lost Empire," by Robert G. Johnson and his daughter, Janey Westin, has been published by Beaver's Pond Press. The book examines the authenticity of the Kensington and Spirit Pond (Maine) runestones.

• Anne Greenwood Brown's first young-adult novel will be published this month by Delacorte. "Lies Beneath" is a romantic comedy about murderous mermaids. Brown, a Minneapolis native, will sign books at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Stillwater Public Library and at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Bookcase of Wayzata.
