Metro locks reopen to recreational boaters

Anglers and pleasure boaters will again be able to travel freely on the urban Mississippi River on Friday after the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers opens three metro locks to recreational boaters.
The locks, closed since May 28 because of high flows, will open at noon Friday.
The Mississippi was up 9 feet at downtown St. Paul on Monday, but it has dropped about 2 feet and is expected to drop 3 feet more by Thursday. The Twin Cities received 9.34 inches of rain in May, the second-wettest May on record.
