Three times the name “Mitch” was called, but each time it failed to produce the result Rochester Century High School was hoping for.
The first round of Major League Baseball’s first-year player draft wrapped up late Monday evening without pitcher Mitch Brown’s name announced.
The Minnesota Baseball Gatorade Player of the Year was touted as the 44th-best prospect by Baseball America, but was left out of the first 60 picks of baseball's amateur draft.
High school players were the favorite in the opening round with 35 preps selected compared to 25 college prospects.
Now Brown, a right-hander, will have to wait for today’s second round to see where he'll go if he decides to turn ptro instead of going to college. Brown was 7-1 during the regular season with a 0.91 ERA.
