Hennepin County Board Chairman Mike Opat has been named to Sun Country Airlines' board of directors.
Opat, who is running for his seventh term this year on the county board, was named to the Sun Country board along with attorney Robert Fafinski Jr.
Their appointments give the airline a total of seven directors.
"These gentlemen are respected and well-established in business and enterprise throughout the Upper Midwest," Marty Davis, Sun Country's chairman, said in a statement.
Opat, who lives in Robbinsdale, represents six northeastern suburbs in the county's First District. Before he was first elected to the board in 1992, he was a supervisor at the Hennepin Adult Corrections Facility.
He serves on the Hennepin Healthcare System board of directors and the Counties Transit Improvement Board, and has degrees from the University of Minnesota and Harvard's Kennedy School of Government.
