A teenager accepted a ride home along Lake Street late one night this week from a stranger and was raped, authorities in Minneapolis said.

The suspect remains at large since the attack, which police say occurred about 2 a.m. Tuesday on E. Lake Street near 21st Avenue S., police said.

Sgt. William Palmer described the assault as a rape and said the 17-year-old girl did not know her attacker. The girl was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center for a sex-assault exam, police added.

The girl, who was walking home from a friend's house, was dropped off near 31st Street after the assault, police said.

The suspect is described as white, in his mid-30s, 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall and weighing about 250 pounds. He had short brown hair and was wearing tan shorts. He also had a large bump on his nose that the victim said may have been a pimple.

The suspect's vehicle was described as a white Dodge Intrepid with a partial Minnesota plate of 777.

Anyone with information about this case is urged to call the police sex crimes unit at 612-673-3790.
