CHASKAHumane Society sets 'Walk Fur Love' event
The Carver-Scott Humane Society's 20th annual "Walk Fur Love" is scheduled for noon on Sunday. The event helps fund the society's programs for homeless animals.
Dogs are invited to come along for the walk as it gets underway at noon at McKnight Park, 110400 Pioneer Trail west of Hwy. 41. Registration will begin at 10 a.m.

WAYZATAVolunteers needed to plant city gardens
Wayzata's Volunteer Committee is seeking 100 citizens willing to devote a morning to help plant colorful flower gardens along the city's thoroughfares. The event, known as the "Dig-It," is scheduled for Saturday.
Some on-the-spot training will begin at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the city's Public Works Building. Volunteers will meet teammates over coffee and doughnuts and then get their garden assignments and go to work under the supervision of the city parks staff. The planting should be completed within three hours.
Wayzata also has an Adopt-a-Garden program in which about 15 city gardens are turned over to individuals or groups to maintain the flowers throughout the growing season.

HOPKINSDash for Down Syndrome is Saturday
Cody's Dash for Down Syndrome -- a 5K fun run plus kids' games, food and live entertainment -- is set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Burnes Park, 301 2nd St. N. in Hopkins.
Registration, which begins at 1 p.m., is $40 per runner, and kids 5 and under can participate free. Entertainment will continue after the race until 5:30 p.m.
Proceeds will benefit the opening of GiGi's Playhouse Twin Cities, a center which helps individuals with Down syndrome reach their highest potential and encourages the community to embrace these individuals.
MINNETONKAOpen house for Gunyou is tonight
Minnetonka is honoring its retiring city manager, John Gunyou, at an open house from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Minnetonka Community Center, 14600 Minnetonka Blvd.
The public is invited. Gunyou, who's served as city manager since 2000, is retiring June 1, and Assistant City Manager Geralyn Barone has been named as his successor.

HENNEPIN COUNTYState of the County address is Thursday
Hennepin County Board Chairman Mike Opat will delivers a "State of the County" address at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Plymouth Creek Center, 14800 34th Av. in Plymouth.
He will discuss county finances and services as well as the County Board's priorities for the coming year.
The event is free and open to the public. It will begin with a "meet and greet" at 8:30 a.m. The event is hosted in partnership with the TwinWest Chamber of Commerce.
