Outfielder Trevor Plouffe might be batting .140, but Twins manager Ron Gardenhire believes Plouffe is only missing pitches and could turn things around in a hurry. One encouraging sign is that Plouffe has drawn 10 walks in 17 games. Both Walters and outfielder Darin Mastroianni made brief appearances with the Blue Jays last season. Walters signed with the Twins during the offseason and Mastroianni was claimed off waivers in February.
BLUE JAYS UPDATE
Toronto won five of six games between the teams last season -- including all three at Target Field -- and have beaten the Twins in the season series in each of the past six years. ... Who is Henderson Alvarez? He's a free agent out of Venezuela whose fastball averages 93 miles per hour -- but he has only 12 strikeouts in 411/3 innings. He threw the first shutout of his career Friday against the Angels. ... Jose Bautista hit 97 homers from 2010-11, but entered Wednesday batting only .187.
