Big fundraiser: The Twin Cities Race for the Cure marks its 20th anniversary this year. It funds about 70 percent of the annual budget of Minnesota's Komen affiliate.Soaring numbers: Participation rose from 2,300 in 1993 to 42,100 last year; revenues went from $69,000 to $3.3 million.

A slower year: An estimated 37,000 have registered so far for 2012.

How it's spent: $2.4 million in grants awarded this year for breast cancer education, screening and financial support to breast cancer patients. Another $429,000 went to Komen headquarters for research. For a complete list, go to www.komenminnesota.org.
