Gophers linebacker Gary Tinsley died earlier this month of an enlarged heart, the Hennepin County medical examiner's office announced Wednesday night.

Tinsley, 22, was found not breathing in his dorm room on April 6. Paramedics were unable to revive him.

In a release, the medical examiner said Tinsley died naturally of cardiomegaly, which can be developed temporarily because of a stress on the body or because of a medical condition.

Next month, the university plans to award Tinsley his diploma posthumously. The Jacksonville, Fla., native started every game the past two seasons.
