TWINS UPDATE

The Twins on Monday will begin a six-game homestand during which they play three games each against the Red Sox and Royals. ... Justin Morneau was supposed to play first base on Sunday but was switched to desginated hitter as he continued to treat his right foot, off which he fouled a pitch on Thursday in New York. Morneau is expected to return to first base during the homestand. ... Morneau, Joe Mauer and Denard Span are batting a combined .304 against Lester.

RED SOX UPDATE

With their game against the Yankees on Sunday rained out, righthander Daniel Bard will be skipped in the rotation and available out of the bullpen during the series. The move is temporary. ... It's all Bobby Valentine's fault in Boston, but closer Andrew Bailey is out until at least the second half of the season following thumb surgery. Alfredo Aceves is trying to fill the role, but he has little experience. And do-it-all center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury is out indefinitely because of a partially disloacted shoulder. The Red Sox on Saturday traded for outfielder Marlon Byrd to replace Ellsbury. ... The Red Sox entered Sunday with the worst ERA in the majors.
