TAMPA, FLA. - Kyle Bonis scored two goals, including the game-winner with under five minutes left, as Ferris State beat Union College 3-1 on Thursday at the Tampa Bay Times Forum in the first semifinal of the Frozen Four.

Bonis, a junior from Lindsay, Ontario, scored his 20th goal of the season on a rebound at 15 minutes, 17 seconds of the third period. Teammate Aaron Schmit added an empty-netter in the last minute.

ECAC champion Union (26-8-7) took a 1-0 lead when Dan Carr redirected defenseman Greg Coburn's shot from the high slot eight minutes into the second period. It was the sophomore forward's 20th goal of the season.

"Everybody stayed pretty calm," Bulldogs forward Jordie Johnson said about falling behind. "Nobody was screaming or anything. We knew we had to come out with a little more fire in the third."

Ferris State, 26-11-5 and the CCHA regular-season champion, tied the score 1-1 with three minutes left in the middle period when Bonis took the puck to the net and scored on a rebound.

Bulldogs goalie Taylor Nelson stopped 27 shots. Troy Grosenick had 34 saves for the Dutchmen.

"We knew goal-scoring was going to be at a premium," Ferris State coach Bob Daniels said, "and we played very good defensively. Both teams have great goaltenders."
