Amid the nonstop chatter of college sports recruitment, this one went pretty much unnoticed earlier this season.

But given that Harvard just qualified for the NCAA basketball tournament and the excitement about Knicks rookie point guard Jeremy Lin, it's worth noting (for those who missed it when the news broke a few months back) that the point guard on Minnesota's No. 1 ranked big-school team has committed to the Crimson.

Siyani Chambers made the call before the start of the current season.

When he committed, the sports blog of the Harvard Crimson, quoted CBSsports.com hoops guy Jeff Borzello as saying that Chambers "knows how to move the ball, he's getting better on his shot. I think he's a really solid point guard, and he would be a good fit for Harvard.

"He could run the show for four years."

Chambers is averaging about 17 points per game for Hopkins, which beat Southwest 105-45 in the first game of the Section 6AAAA playoffs and now meets Wayzata at 6 p.m. Friday at Osseo High School.

Here are highlights from the Hopkins-Southwest game, including an interview with Chambers (No. 4) at the end.

Hopkins has given high school basketball fans reasons to root against the Royals over the years and to mock their success. That overlooks players like Gophers grad Blake Hoffarber and Trent Lockett, now at Arizona State, who are classy people on and off the court.

Chambers is an excellent bet to continue the best of the Hopkins tradition.
