Minnesota Sen. Gary Kubly, who has Lou Gehrig's disease, had a medical crisis Wednesday morning and is Regions Hospital in critical condition, according to a Senate DFL spokesman.

His family requested well-wishers' thoughts and prayers, said Amos Briggs, spokesman for Democrats in the Senate.

Kubly was first diagnosed with the neurological disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or Lou Gehrig's disease, in 2010.

At the start of this year's legislative session, Kubly, from Granite Falls, had programmed his iPad to speak a message of thanks for him.
