Infielder Luke Hughes did have a cortisone shot in his right shoulder. It usually takes a couple days for the medicine to work its way through, so Hughes should learn over the weekend how it turned out. Hughes was relieved that nothing serious was detected during the second opinion.

Josh Willingham and Sean Burroughs reported to camp on Wednesday. One interesting thing about Burroughs: He's brought multiple gloves to camp and manager Ron Gardenhire plans to look at him at third base, second and first.

That leaves Justin Morneau and Oswaldo Arcia as the only two players not to report yet. Tomorrow is the report date.

Gardenhire said that Ryan Doumit will open the season as the Twins' designated hitter but Morneau and Joe Mauer definitely will see time there. Gardenhire also said he foresees situations where Doumit starts a couple games in a row so Mauer can DH and get somewhat of a break.

Jared Burton and Jeff Gray were among pitchers who had bullpen sessions on Wednesday.

Thursday's workout will begin one-half hour early and end earlier than usual so the team can be excused to take part in their annual charity golf event.
