Senate Majority Leader Dave Senjem raised the specter of a special legislative session to pass a Minnesota Vikings stadium bill if the job is not done by the Legislature's spring adjournment.

"Depending on how this thing flows, I'm not sure we want to stay around here for a very long time...waiting for a stadium proposal if one doesn't come forward. So, it is purely speculation but my point was if the bonding bill is done, if all we are doing is waiting for a stadium proposal to arise, it would seem to me that we'd recess or perhaps just adjourn and wait for the governor to perhaps call a special session once the package is together," Senjem said Friday.

Senjem said he was raising the possibility out of pure speculation. He was the only legislative leader Friday to do so.

Gov. Mark Dayton, who has sole power to call a special session, has not spoken of the possibility this year.

House Speaker Kurt Zellers would not answer whether he would support the governor calling lawmakers back to the Capitol if they adjourn this spring without passing a stadium bill. The Democratic leaders of the House and Senate, Rep. Paul Thissen and Sen. Tom Bakk, both said they would not support a special session to pass a stadium bill.

Although there have recently been some signs that a complete stadium package may soon arrive but as of Friday no stadium bill had been introduced in the Legislature.

Lawmakers hope to finish their regular session work by late April this year.
