A man died Tuesday after jumping from the High Bridge in St. Paul into the Mississippi River.

Witnesses saw him jump from the south end of the bridge about 1:15 p.m., according to St. Paul Fire Marshal Steve Zaccard.

Two firefighters in ice rescue suits waded into the river to rescue the man while an air boat was stationed nearby. The man stayed afloat until they reached him. He was taken to Regions Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
