CHART: National Girls and Women in Sports Day

NATIONAL GIRLS AND WOMEN IN SPORTS DAY

What: A nationwide celebration, now in its 26th year, to honor those who have advanced and promoted girls' and women's sports.

When: Wednesday

In Minnesota: A ceremony, open to the public, will be held at noon at the State Capitol to recognize 21 people in five categories. Honorees include Val Teichroew, a longtime coach and teacher at Richfield High School; Peggy Brenden, a Title IX trailblazer and board member of St. Paul Urban Tennis; Mary Jo Kane, director of the U's Tucker Center for Research on Girls and Women in Sport; track athlete and cancer survivor Gabriele Anderson; Janis Klecker, a 1992 Olympian in the marathon; and Lynette Sjoquist, radio analyst for Gophers women's basketball.
