Will Harriet Brewing be the city's first brewery with a taproom?

A key Minneapolis Council committee approved a measure Thursday allowing Harriet Brewing to sell pints of beer at their brewery in the Longfellow neighborhood.

The motion, sponsored by council member Gary Schiff, still needs full Council approval. It will likely get a vote next Friday.

The change is possible because of the so-called "Surly bill," which passed the Legislature this spring. That allowed small breweries to sell pints of their own beer on the premises, which was previously against the law. Minneapolis passed mirroring legislation this year.

Harriet, which already has a license to sell "growlers," will be open to the public between noon and 1 a.m. Monday through Saturday. The taproom's capacity will be 45 people.

The brewery is located at 3036 Minnehaha Avenue.
