- November 27, 2011 - 9:30 PM
Brian Reagan, leader, Center for Business Excellence, University of St. Thomas Opus College of BusinessReagan, 50, comes to his recent appointment at St. Thomas after 10 years at BioScrip, the specialty pharmaceutical company where he had most recently served as executive vice president. Before that, he spent 15 years in investment banking with a focus on health technology companies.
As assistant dean of executive and professional development, Reagan seeks to build on a center that offers more than 100 different programs to more than 4,300 participants last year.
Reagan, a St. Paul resident, graduated from St. John's University in Collegeville and received an MBA from Dartmouth's Tuck School of Business. The idea of returning to academia appealed, he said, because he's "always enjoyed the intellectual energy level of academics."
Reagan said he sees his value to the center in developing a growth plan, a significant part of which will offering a greater range of programs to a broader range of companies. "I hope part of what I bring is an ability to create bridges or pathways ... for the university as a whole to the business community," he said.
Q What do you like to do outside of work?
AI enjoy golf and skiing. We have five kids, which keeps me pretty busy. I have a son ... named as featured artist for WineFest, a fundraiser for pediatric health care at the University of Minnesota. It's been near and dear to our hearts because he is autistic, and we've done a lot of work with the University over the years on the subject of autism.
Q Is executive education a tougher sell in a bad economy?
AI don't think the value equation changes based on economic circumstances. If you do executive education properly, it should pay significant dividends in good times and bad times.
Q Tommies or Johnnies?
AI have to sort of be agnostic on the sports side. It's a great sports rivalry. There's nothing like the St. John's-St. Thomas football game in the fall. I pretty much sat out the football season, not wanting to offend either side.
