Northern Flickers have occasionally visited our bird feeders in fall and winter. Last year, one was regular into January. This morning, this fellow came to eat sunflower seeds. The light was very good, and I got lucky with timing. This bird for sure belongs to the yellow-shafted group of the species. Red-shafted is the other choice, those birds found to our west. The moustachial stripe is indication that this bird is a male.
