There was a small grass fire Friday afternoon on the property where the Minnesota Vikings hope to someday be playing football.
The 3- to 4-acre fire at the defunct Arden Hills Army Ammunition Plant site was not a threat to any structures on the 430-acre site at the northeast corner of Hwys. 10 and 96, nor did it affect traffic on any nearby roads, said Ramsey County spokesman Randy Gustafson.
Vikings management has been campaigning for a financial package with the county and the state to have a stadium built there, allowing the team to leave the Metrodome in Minneapolis.
On Thursday, county commissioners announced a tentative deal to buy the site from the federal government. County Commissioners Tony Bennett and Rafael Ortega said the price won't top the budgeted $30 million for the property, including pollution cleanup.
