An online video posted on the Minnesota Vikings' website this weekend signaled the start of a broad pitch for a new stadium.

The two-minute video is a stirring montage of images from the old Met Stadium in Bloomington, former coach Bud Grant's stoic stare and fans.

Lester Bagley, Vikings vice president, said the ad will be sent via e-mail to fans.

The team also plans a media tour and print ads. Bagley said the goals are "to deliver accurate information, dispel misinformation, and arm and mobilize our supporters."

The team wants to build a publicly subsidized $1.1 billion stadium in Arden Hills. The new ad emphasizes the communal aspect of the Vikings and their 50-year history here.

The video says, "Together we can build a multipurpose facility owned by the great state of Minnesota."

According to the video, the project would create 7,000 jobs and $300 million in wages.
