Leslie Frazier brought a cheat sheet with him as he huddled with reporters following this afternoon's practice at Winter Park. On that piece of paper was a list of 14 names, a growing injury report that's forcing Frazier and his assistants to fiddle with their plans.
Missing practice Thursday: guard Anthony Herrera (knee), tight end Visanthe Shiancoe (foot) and running back/kick returner Lorenzo Booker (concussion-like symptoms). Oh, and defensive end Jared Allen was off being initiated into fatherhood. His wife Amy gave birth to a baby girl Thursday.
Limited in practice: running back Adrian Peterson, receiver Percy Harvin (ribs), cornerback Antoine Winfield (neck), defensive tackle Remi Ayodele (ankle), end Brian Robison (shoulder) and linebacker E.J. Henderson (knee).
Back at full strength: linebacker Erin Henderson, who missed Wednesday's drills for personal reasons; as well as safety Husain Abdullah, center John Sullivan and safety Jamarca Sanford, all who have been cleared after suffering concussions.
Winfield's injury is the most noteworthy at present. Thursday marked his first full-contact practice in pads since Week 4. And as he came off the practice field, he seemed upbeat.
“It went pretty good for the first time getting out there being able to hit,” Winfield said. “Didn’t feel too much. So it looks like I might be out there [Sunday].”
Coach Leslie Frazier was less confident.
"Probably not as optimistic as I thought we'd be going into today's practice," Frazier said. "We'll see if anything changes tomorrow."
Winfield admitted he had some hesitance at first getting back into the mode of hitting Thursday but didn't feel any initial aggravation in his neck. Frazier, however, wasn't exactly gushing with his post-practice review.
"He moved around OK. I'd like to talk to him a little bit and see how he feels mentally as well as physically. [The Panthers] have some really good backs and, as you know, an explosive receiver [in Steve Smith]. So he's going to have to tackle for us like the Antoine we know. So we just have to sit down and talk with him and see what he thinks."
