Ten seconds was all the time Joe Sulik had to observe a mother bobcat with her two offspring in the Badlands last year before the animals dashed away. It was enough for Sulik, a 10th-grader living in Fargo, N.D., to capture the following award-winning photo.
According to an online story in the Fargo Forum, Sulik recently traveled to London, where this photo earned a special commendation and is hanging in the Natural History Museum. Sulik's love of photography began about five years ago with a trip to Yellowstone in Montana where his family was guided by an avid photographer. More of Sulik's nature photography is displayed on his blog. Sulik is the son of child psychiatrist L. Read Sulik, who under Gov. Tim Pawlenty led state mental health reforms as an assistant commissioner for the Minnesota Department of Human Services.
