WNBA Finals, Game 3: Lynx-Atlanta game preview

  • October 6, 2011 - 9:59 PM

Preview: The Lynx need to win one of the next three games over Atlanta to win the WNBA title. What's more, the Lynx are 4-0 against the Dream this season, with three of those victories coming at Target Center. The latest Lynx win was a 101-95 thriller on Wednesday. It came three days after the Lynx won 88-74 in Game 1.

Players to watch: Angel McCoughtry is someone every Lynx defender better watch. The dynamic Dream forward scored 33 points in Game 1 and a Finals-record 38 in Game 2. McCoughtry was 8-for-9 from the field in the first half Wednesday before cooling considerably to 2-for-13 in the second half. But she kept getting fouled and was 10-for-14 on free throws in the last 20 minutes. ... Seimone Augustus of the Lynx went back to being nearly a one-woman show for the Lynx in Game 2 -- like she often was when healthy in her first five seasons. With the other four starters shooting a combined 12-for-32, Augustus scored 36 points. She was 11-for-14 on field goals and made her only three-point attempt.

Numbers: The Lynx are 19-3 at home and hoping they played their last game at Target Center. They are a good road team, too, tying a WNBA record for road victories (13-4). They are 1-1 on the road in the playoffs. The big numbers for the Lynx in Game 2 were their free throws made (38) and attempted (46), both Finals records. Atlanta had 33 fouls. Every one of its starters and two reserves committed at least three.
