The Thunderbirds of British Columbia will be pretty tuckered by late Monday night. UBC plays Nebraska Omaha on Saturday, the Gophers on Sunday and Minnesota State Mankato on Monday.

It's exhibition weekend for the WCHA and 10 of the 12 teams are playing. Actually, one of them Alaska Anchorage, already played.

Seven different Seawolves players scored goals Friday night as the UAA used a five-goal second period to pull away for a 7-2 exhibition victory over Northern Alberta Institute of Technology at the Menard Memorial Ice Arena in Wasilla, Alas.

Sophomore Rob Gunderson had to make just six saves in his starting role to earn the victory in net, while juniors Mickey Spencer, Daniel Naslund and Scott Warner had multi-point nights, along with sophomore Matt Bailey.

UAA got on the board early when Naslund converted a pass from senior left wing Jade Portwood at the 6:04 mark of the first period.

In the second period, Mitch Bruijsten, a junior left wing, began the onslaught with a goal at the 4:17 mark, followed by tallies from junior right wing Chris Crowell at 5:41 and junior forward Tyler Currier at 6:46. Warner then made it 5-0 midway through the period and added an assist on Brett Cameron's goal at 14:27.

The Seawolves outshot the Ooks 18-1 in the deciding frame and 38-12 for the game.

Spencer lit the lamp just 48 seconds into the third to make it 7-0, although NAIT got on the board with a power-play goal from Josh Lee and an even-strength score by Liam Darragh. All of the UAA goals came in even-strength situations.

Sophomore Chris Kamal tended the Seawolf net for the second half of the game, making four saves.

Graeme Harrington had a tough night in goal for the Ooks with 14 saves and five goals allowed in almost 30 minutes, however Canadian women's Olympic gold-medalist goalie Shannon Szabados played well for the visitors, making 17 saves and allowing just two goals in the last 30 minutes.

The official UAA season gets under way next week with the annual Kendall Hockey Classic, Oct. 7-8 at the Sullivan Arena. Alaska Fairbanks and St. Cloud State kick off the tourney at 5:07 p.m. on Friday, followed by the Seawolves against Clarkson at 8:07 p.m. The Lower 48 clubs flip opponents with the Alaska schools on Saturday, with opening faceoffs set for 4:07 p.m. and 7:07 p.m. There will be free Kendall rally towels and Seawolf schedule magnet giveaways among the promotions at this year's Classic.
