Trinity Lutheran Congregation is the only active Christian congregation remaining in the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood of Minneapolis.
That’s partly because the neighborhood nicknamed “Little Mogadishu” has a large number of Somali immigrants, who are Muslim.
The church’s pastor, Jane Buckley-Farlee, says Trinity is in the process of building relationships with the neighborhood mosques. And this Sunday, to commemorate the 10th anniversary of 9/11, Trinity is hosting an open house for Muslims and others from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
“Trinity is hosting the open house as we continue to break down the barriers between us as Africans and Americans, blacks and whites, Christians and Muslims,” Buckley-Farlee said in an e-mail.
