General Mills pulls Yoplait ad
- June 17, 2011 - 11:46 AM
General Mills agreed this week to stop running a national Yoplait television advertisement after an advocacy group complained that the ad had "negative implications" for people suffering from eating disorders.
The ad involved a worker peering into an office refrigerator and mulling whether to take a piece of raspberry cheesecake -- making deals with herself for the indulgence. She instead chooses a Yoplait raspberry cheesecake yogurt after another worker, who has recently lost weight, chooses the same.
The National Eating Disorders Association said in a statement the ad's language was "seriously problematic," but applauded General Mills for pulling the spot.
Golden Valley-based General Mills said in a statement that any correlation between the ad and eating disorders was unintentional.
Some markets may continue to see the ad for a few weeks.
