Eleven Vikings to take part in practices

Quarterbacks Christian Ponder, Joe Webb and Rhett Bomar are among 11 Vikings players expected to attend three days of workouts this week at the IMG Madden Football Academy in Bradenton, Fla.

Players were expected to arrive Monday and will begin the Tuesday through Thursday program with weight room work this morning and then an on-the-field session in the late afternoon.

Former Cretin-Derham Hall and Florida State standout Chris Weinke has been working with Ponder and Webb as part of the IMG program and is expected to play a big role in overseeing these sessions. Bomar's decision to take part means all three of the quarterbacks who are expected to be on the Vikings' roster will be present in Bradenton. (There could be a veteran added at some point but that can't happen until after the NFL lockout.)

In addition to the three quarterbacks, players expected to attend include wide receivers Greg Camarillo, Emmanuel Arceneaux, Sidney Rice, Jaymar Johnson and Percy Harvin; running back Lorenzo Booker; and tight ends Visanthe Shiancoe and Kyle Rudolph.

The Vikings join the list of clubs on which a group of players have decided to get together at a neutral site because they are prohibited from doing so at their team's facility due to the lockout.

Ponder was given at least a portion of the Vikings' playbook when the lockout was lifted briefly in late April and this will give him a chance to share what he has learned with some teammates. It appears the goal in Bradenton will be to have practices and off-the-field work that resemble a minicamp.

Obviously, that will be a bit difficult with only11 players in attendance.
