Minneapolis police are advising North Side residents to be alert to burglaries in the wake of Sunday's tornado.
Lt. Kim Lund, who monitors property crimes in the Fourth Precinct, said Tuesday that some break-ins were being reported, and that neighbors should call police if they see suspicious behavior. Lund said the problems were not widespread.
About 2:20 a.m. Monday, the Fremont Market at Fremont and 36th avenues was robbed of tobacco products and food after the store's security system was disabled by a power outage, and a door was then pried open, police said.
Late Sunday night, a North Side resident told police that someone kicked in the back door of his home in the 4000 block of Lyndale Av. N. and made off with thousands of dollars worth of World War II weapons and memorabilia.
His dogs were locked in the basement, he said, out of fear the storm might kick up again.
