Longtime Anoka County Board member Dan Erhart had it exactly right when he was asked earlier this year to sum up county administrator Terry Johnson.

“A class act,’’ Erhart said.

The silver-haired Johnson, who retires April 29, worked for the county for 26 years, five as chief administrator.

He’s provided steady leadership for the northwest metro county as it weathered a recession, state cutbacks and a failed Minnesota Vikings stadium deal.

One of the few things that gets the unflappable Johnson hot around the collar: the state’s “maintenance of effort” spending requirements for counties.

Johnson, who is well-liked in the Anoka community, has earned a long and happy retirement. His dedication, hard work and collegiality will be missed.
