TORONTO -- Twins catcher Joe Mauer will enter Friday night's season opener coming off two full days of rest.

The Twins and Blue Jays will have a quick turnaround Saturday, with a noon (Central) start. Catchers often take a break with a night game coming after a day game, but Mauer might not need it.

Mauer had arthroscopic left knee surgery in December. He played in eight exhibition games this spring, batting .300 (6-for-20) with one double, seven RBI and four walks. He sat out of Wednesday afternoon's exhibition game in Atlanta after playing Tuesday night.

"Actually, he feels really, really good," Manager Ron Gardenhire said. "He was ready to catch [Wednesday] if we wanted him to."
